Exploren makes public charging easier with tap-and-go payments and $30 million network expansion.
More than 600 new chargers, upgraded existing sites, and new contactless payment options will make EV charging more convenient, reliable and accessible for Australians. Drivers will be able to charge using either a credit card tap payment or the Exploren app.
As electric vehicle adoption continues to grow across Australia, public charging infrastructure needs to become as accessible and convenient as the destinations people visit every day. Exploren is investing $30 million over the next 2 years to expand and improve Australia’s public charging network, while introducing simpler payment options that make charging easier and more accessible for everyone.
Over the next two years, the investment is expected to deliver more than 600 new DC fast chargers, with a focus on high-speed charging in convenient locations where Australians already spend time, including shopping centres, gyms, holiday parks, and other everyday destinations. Alongside this expansion, Exploren will continue investing in the maintenance, servicing, and ongoing care of its existing charging infrastructure to help ensure a reliable experience for drivers.
Exploren has also introduced contactless credit card payments across its public network. New public chargers will offer drivers the choice of paying directly at the charger using their credit card or through the Exploren app. Many existing chargers that currently use the Exploren app as the primary payment method will also be upgraded to support contactless card payments.
The improvements are designed to remove common barriers to public charging. Drivers who already use the Exploren app can continue to access the network through the platform, while occasional EV drivers, visitors, and first-time users will benefit from a familiar tap-and-go payment experience without the need to download an app or create an account.
“As more Australians move to electric vehicles, charging needs to be as simple and familiar as refuelling. This investment is about making charging easier to access, easier to use, and easier to trust.
We are investing in expanding the network, maintaining charge infrastructure that already exists and introducing more payment options so drivers can choose what works best for them. Whether you prefer to tap your card or use the Exploren app, public charging should be accessible for everyone. We are investing to make EV ownership practical for more Australians.“
