Intellihub Smart Water Service Achieves Smart Drop Certification

Intellihub’s smart water service has officially received Smart Drop Certification.

The initiative provides recognition for water efficient products and services, enabling consumers and businesses to easily identify products and services that have been independently assessed as contributing to positive water outcomes.

Smart Drop Certified is a water efficiency certification program managed by The Water Conservancy and overseen by an independent expert panel.

Unlike traditional water meters, the Intellihub’s smart water meter offers pressure or acoustic sensors and records water consumption at 30-minute intervals, automatically transmitting usage and alert data.

The certification acknowledges the role that digital water metering plays in enabling utilities, councils and other providers to move quickly and accurately pinpoint service issues, in addition to optimising planning and decision making – helping to reduce network maintenance costs and improve customer outcomes.

“We are very pleased to see Intellihub achieve Smart Drop Certification, recognising the value its smart water service can deliver to customers and the broader water sector,” said Chris Philpot, CEO of The Water Conservancy. “Certified solutions like this help build confidence in technologies that improve efficiency, support better decision-making and contribute to more sustainable water management outcomes.”

Drawing on industry experience, Intellihub work closely with water providers to optimise deployment, meter communications and data delivery.

The insights provided by smart water meters address a key industry challenge – water lost through leaks, bursts, meter inaccuracies and manual data handling errors.

This negatively impacts revenue and crucially, affects the supply of a scarce resource and the energy used in its extraction, treatment and distribution.

“As providers seek to secure long-term supply, improve transparency and reduce household costs, we’re proud to provide an independently certified service that supports these goals,” said Inge Diamond, General Manager, Smart Water at Intellihub.

“Across Australia, smart water meters have proven ability to significantly reduce costs for customers, while streamlining operations for network operators.”

Intellihub CEO Wes Ballantine said the certification is a positive step forward as the organisation continues its mission to simplify the industry’s digital transition.

“We are proud to have Intellihub’s smart water service independently supported by the Smart Drop Certification program,” Mr Ballantine said.

“Intellihub brings more than a decade of experience delivering smart metering at scale in the energy sector. Applying those insights, capabilities and learnings to water helps utilities access the same level of visibility, accuracy and confidence that has already transformed electricity networks.”

“As pressure on water systems increases due to climate and population growth, trusted, independently certified solutions will be critical to supporting informed investment and sustainable outcomes.”

Beyond immediate efficiency gains, the smart water service offered by Intellihub provide a foundation for future innovation across the water sector, including improved demand management, real time monitoring to support drought resilience, and integration with broader energy and infrastructure systems.

The Smart Drop certification reinforces Intellihub’s position as a long-term infrastructure partner to water providers, drawing on its experience managing more than three million smart energy meters across Australia.
